MY HEALING STORY
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

About 15 years ago, I had a strep infection. I received antibiotics and steroids in the emergency room. As a result, I developed a "leaky gut" which caused a condition called guttate psoriasis. I had hundreds of red, scaly patches all over my body, which caused terrible itching so that I couldn't even sleep at night without taking anti-histamines. My entire body was covered except for my face, hands, and feet. I couldn't even wear a short-sleeved shirt or a dress. I went to a wedding with a long-sleeved shirt and pants. The dermatologist and other specialists only offered me steroids, creams (which burned my skin), and UV light treatments (which also burned my skin). I was told that I would have to live with this condition for the rest of my life and was also offered Methotrexate (a drug also used in chemotherapy). The doctor told me that they would monitor my liver and kidney function and stop the drug if either of them deteriorated! I decided to get back to the reason why I became a nutritionist in the first place, as I knew that I couldn't live like this for the rest of my life. I embarked upon a journey of cleansing my entire being. My diet was simple and clean, but still enjoyable (I love food!). I also did a lot of spiritual, emotional, and body work. In retrospect, this condition as a gift because I learned so much about myself and how to better help my clients. Within 6 months, I was ready for summer and able to wear shorts and a tank top again. I truly believe that with patience and determination, our bodies are meant to heal and be healthy.
